Sue Tingle runs her pretty home and interiors shop in Whitby’s historic Flowergate. Named Isobel May after her little granddaughter who passed away when she was just five years old, Sue describes her shop as a gorgeous mix of beautiful things for the home including antiques, china, lighting, furniture, and soft furnishings. She stocks brands including Emma Bridgewater, Sophie Allport and Emma Ball.
A former window dresser for Laura Ashley, Sue had always wanted her own shop where she could make good use of her creative flair and interior design skills.
The opportunity came in 2009, when the owners of the shoe shop where she was working didn’t want to renew the lease. Sue snapped up the property to set up her dream shop using savings and some of her husband’s pension.
She says business is ‘absolutely crazy’ and still can’t believe how well it has taken off. Sue enjoys excellent year round trade from locals and tourists visiting the town, and devotes a lot of time and love to the business.
Sue had always been reluctant to get an overdraft for the business, preferring to save up for things she needed. But after a chance phone call, she felt she had nothing to lose by trying a Liberis business cash advance.
Sue took her first advance in 2012 and has had a further five since, including two in 2017. She has used the funding to support her business in a range of areas including updating the electrics, installing a water heater in the kitchen, new shelving for the stock room and buying in stock including some antiques.
Sue explains, “This funding is brilliant! I don’t even notice it being paid back and then suddenly it is. There’s no hassle. Plus I never have to worry if I have a slow period. A few years ago, I had to shut the shop for five days to look after my daughter because she was ill; Liberis made the difference between being able to or not."
"Staff are very friendly and super helpful. I can phone up on a Thursday and the money is in my account on Friday. I would definitely recommend Liberis. My daughter, who is an accountant, does my books for me and she approves!”
