Celebrating 10 Years of Liberis
Liberis are celebrating our 10th birthday!
Since starting out in 2007, we’ve helped thousands of small UK businesses access over £150 million of funding. We’ve been working hard to continuously operate on our three core principles – a simple product, responsibly delivered, by specialists who understand our customers – and we’re proud to see this reflected in our achievements over the last ten years.
We started out under the name Merchant Cash Express and, with a signed processing agreement with Lloyds Cardnet, it was just under a year before we funded our 100th advance in February 2008.
We knew we could be doing even more to help small businesses grow - so we grew too! And signed our second processing agreement with Elavon in May 2009. This enabled us to expand our service, and now provide business finance to those using Elavon card processing terminals; by April the following year, we had reached the milestone of funding our 1000th advance!
2013 was a huge year for us: it was the year we joined leading venture builders, Blenheim Chalcot; and the year we left the name Merchant Cash Express behind, and rebranded as Liberis.
Repositioning us in the ever-growing world of fintech, it seems like our new name came just in time, as in October 2014 we finally launched our agnostic processor solution. This meant that we could now integrate our Business Cash Advance with any card processer; resulting in the ability to provide finance to even more small businesses!
This fresh capability spurred on more growth which led us to partnering with global leader in payment processing, Worldpay, late in 2015, and the launch of Worldpay Business Finance. To date, this collaboration has delivered over £15 million of funding to Worldpay customers and we couldn’t feel prouder of what we’ve accomplished together.
Working with innovative new technology and a fantastic team of developers, the following January saw the launch of our online application system, digitising our customer journey with a competitively quicker and simpler design. And later that month, we also surpassed providing a total of £100 million in funding to small businesses!
Following this milestone, it wasn’t long until we secured backing from the UK Government owned, British Business Bank. This is a development bank set up with the aim of supporting growth in finance market for small businesses – a cause we’re extremely passionate about, and proud to be involved in!
We kicked off 2017 as a founding member of the Association of Alternative Business Finance (AABF), an organisation formed, alongside six other alternative business finance providers, to promote best industry practice and responsibility in our field.
In March 2017, we also teamed up with the world’s leading online food and delivery service, Just Eat, a partnership connecting our Business Cash Advance with Just Eat’s Restaurant Partners to offer them a better way to source funding for their businesses.
And that almost brings us up to speed, as earlier this month we announced another very exciting partnership, launching Sage Pay Business Finance, with the payments arm of enterprise software developers Sage. And continuing with our Fintech integrations, our most recent movement also saw us join the Xero marketplace as a selected finance provider, bringing business owners a better way to access finance using Xero
Not to mention, we’ve just hit the £150 million total mark in amount of funding we’ve delivered to UK SMEs!
Liberis CEO Rob Straathof said:
“It’s a great milestone to have been providing value to the UK’s small businesses for 10 years. It feels like we have just got started with the great team of people and the ambitions we have across the business here at Liberis, here’s to many more years of helping small businesses thrive!”
