Small Business Growth Stories: Rosa's Thai Café
Company: Rosa’s Thai Café
Founders: Alex and Saiphin Moore
Founded: 2008
Location: 8 outlets across London; including Spitalfields, Soho, and Westfield Stratford
Who are Rosa’s Thai Café? Rosa’s Thai Café first began in 2006 as a market stall on Brick Lane where their food, inspired by recipes from the Far East, charmed Londoners from near and far.
Moving to meet their increasing customer demand it wasn’t long until owners, husband and wife, Alex and Saiphin Moore, took over a local café in Spitalfields and settled in to the original Rosa’s Thai Café - combining ‘modern London with modern Bangkok’.
Since then the business has expanded across London, opening 8 new sites in areas including Soho, Chelsea, Brixton, and Victoria. They also run a blog where they share some of their favourite recipes, and have released a cookbook.
1. What inspired the creation of Rosa’s Thai Café?
"Having not been very good at working for other people – and having been fired from a number of jobs - I’m trying to create a business that’s totally different from anywhere I’ve worked previously. The aim is to create something different and meaningful."
2. How do you define your method of business growth?
"At Rosa’s, we have an expression: ‘Structure will set you free’. It’s all about having structure & scalability so that people’s working lives don’t get harder as the business grows bigger."
3. What advice would you give to an entrepreneur just starting out?
"Start small and test your business model out thoroughly. Then tweak it and tweak it again. Eventually you’ll get it right, and then you can scale it accordingly."
