Oscar's Champagne Café

Oscar's Champagne Cafe

Former restaurant chef, Tommy Morris set up Oscars Champagne Café in the centre of Belfast in 2004. There was nothing like it in the City at the time and he took this opportunity to begin building a standout business.

Since launching, Oscars has built up a particularly loyal following amongst the workers from nearby offices and with local banks who regularly hold breakfast meetings - whilst enjoying Oscars’ famous Ulster fry with soda bread. The café also has a four star rating on Trip Advisor and is well known for its gourmet sandwiches, afternoon teas and breakfasts.

As the city has developed, other cafes have begun to open up and Tommy has felt the pressure of the competition. To keep ahead, he keeps his pricing competitive and works hard to serve ‘simple food cooked well’, using local produce and suppliers where he can.

With some of the competition coming from large chains, Tommy also has to make sure that the café stays looking fresh and stylish. And to support his maintenance, he spoke to Liberis about taking out a Business Cash Advance.

“I have to keep on top of these things otherwise I’ll lose customers, but taking the money out of the business to do it is not always possible and the banks are very reluctant to lend.” he says.

Tommy finds the cash advance an effective way to make regular improvements to the café without affecting his cash-flow. “I don’t even see or feel the payments back to Liberis because they’re taken out at source. It’s simple and stress free. For a small business like this, it’s another lifeline.” he adds.
